History
Pensacola Habitat for Humanity, Inc. was established as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in 1981. Pensacola Habitat is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization committed to the elimination of poverty housing in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties through the construction of decent, affordable homes using volunteer labor, as well as donated land, materials, and funds. Pensacola Habitat's volunteer teams unite young and old, black and white, skilled and non-skilled, military and civilian, wealthy and needy in community-building.
Affiliate Experience and Volunteer Base
Pensacola Habitat for Humanity uses over 8,000 volunteers each year. Annually, Pensacola Habitat partners with local churches of all denominations, local businesses, professional clubs and associations and various civic organizations. Pensacola Habitat maintains a valuable partnership with George Stone Vocational School and Pensacola Junior College Construction Workforce Program. The schools use Pensacola Habitat work sites as "classrooms" for teaching students various trades, and in return the affiliate is able to construct homes with free and skilled labor. The affiliate maintains a prison partnership with our local Sheriff’s department’s Pathway for Change program. Pensacola Habitat has been recognized on the state and national levels for the ongoing partnership with Corry Station Boys Base program for incarcerated youth. Every year Pensacola Habitat for Humanity hosts mission groups of high school and college students. These groups come to Pensacola on their school vacations and help construct Habitat homes. These groups return to Pensacola Habitat year after year because of the positive volunteer experience they have with the affiliate.
