About Us

Our Purpose:
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical, Christian ministry whose purpose is to build homes and improve communities in partnership with low and very low income families in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.

Pensacola Habitat for Humanity is not a give-away program.  Through the use of donations, in-kind gifts and volunteer labor Habitat builds simple decent homes and sells the homes at cost with a no-interest mortgage to deserving families.

Habitat houses are built in collaboration with partner families who contribute 200 hours of their own labor known as "sweat equity".  By contributing sweat equity hours, homeowners are vested in their home and neighborhood as they enjoy the tangible results of teamwork.

Habitat for Humanity offers a long-term solution, not a quick-fix, to the problem of poverty housing. The organization makes home ownership possible for people who would not otherwise qualify for a conventional mortgage or afford safe, decent shelter.  In the process of building new homes, Habitat has cleaned up lots previously used for illegal dumping and has torn down dilapidated structures, making neighborhoods safer and cleaner. Pensacola Habitat remains the only organization in the area that offers homeownership to very low income families.

Our Tasks:
Our tasks are twofold:

  1. To provide home ownership opportunities to low and very low income families in Pensacola, Milton and Gulf Breeze by building simple decent homes with family partners and providing them with interest-free loans for the purchase of these homes and
  2. To provide opportunities to all people of conscience to volunteer and to otherwise support the building of homes and communities in partnership families in need.

Our Goals:

  • To witness to the Word of God and the love of Jesus Christ for all persons through our words and actions.
  • To build bridges among all economic and ethnic segments of our community by establishing new relationships, a sense of community and a renewed commitment to "the common good."
  • To welcome participation from all individuals, groups, or organizations who desire to join with Pensacola Habitat for Humanity because of their shared concern and compassion for those in need.
