Habitat's Summer Volunteers of the Month

In the Summer 2010 edition of HabiChat, the following individuals were named Pensacola Habitat's Volunteers of the Month. Thank you for all of your hard work and support of our mission. Habitat volunteers really do make a difference!

April – Eddie Williams
Eddie Williams is one of Habitat's faithful ReStore volunteers. He is also a student at George Stone Technical Center, studying in the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Technology Program. Students in this program are partnering with the ReStore to help repair refrigerators for resale. Eddie has also become a regular ReStore shopper since he began volunteering nearly two years ago.

"People can find some good deals at the ReStore," he says. Pensacola Habitat is grateful for Eddie's volunteer service and support of our mission!

May – Mary Luongo

Mary, an instructor for the Naval Air Technical Training Center, has volunteered more than 100 hours on our construction sites. Impressed with Mary's abilities, veteran volunteer crew leaders Phyllis Clayton and Joanne Perry offered to train Mary to lead volunteer crews. Recently, Mary helped supervise a crew for Habitat's National Women Build Week, sponsored by Lowe's.

"Getting a chance to work with Habitat for Humanity is an awe-inspiring experience and I've had a blast working with the other volunteers and the crew leaders," Mary says. "I have learned so much while working [with Habitat]. I can't wait to impart my knowledge on friends and family, and put it to use on my own home."

June – Breena Bruni
Breena Bruni began volunteering with Habitat for Humanity more than two years ago. Following hurricane Katrina, her sister-in-law invited Breena to help rebuild the lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. Inspired by her volunteer experience in New Orleans, Breena sought out Pensacola Habitat, and joined the Escambia County Family Selection Committee.

“It means a lot to me to meet with the families and see them through their sweat equity and into a new home of their own,” she says. “It's such a rewarding volunteer experience.”
