Volunteer
If you would like to volunteer on our construction crews:
Right now our greatest need is during the week, Tuesday-Friday. A typical construction work day is 8am-3pm. Activities may include framing, painting, installing vinyl siding, roofing or landscaping. We build homes in both Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. We never turn away a volunteer. If you can only work on the weekends I can find a place for you.
If you would like to volunteer in our home store:
Right now our greatest need is volunteers who are willing to donate their time on a regular/routine basis. At this store we offer new and used donated excellent items at discounted prices. We feature building materials and home furnishings. Proceeds from this store are used towards building Habitat homes. Activities may include pricing and stocking inventory, organizing donated items, assisting customers or cleaning the store. The hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday 9am-5pm, and it is located at 5810 N. Palafox St. in Pensacola.
If you would like to volunteer in our office:
Right now our greatest need is volunteers who are willing to donate their time on a regular/routine basis. It is important that we always have someone working at the front desk to answer the telephone. As one of the most productive Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the country, our telephone is constantly ringing. Since we do not have a hired ‘office assistant’ we depend on reliable volunteers to perform this task as well as other activities such as data entry, copying, filing, cleaning or assembling mailings for distribution. Our office is open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
If you would like to serve on a committee:
Advisory committees are a vital component of Pensacola Habitat for Humanity and we are always looking for volunteers who are interested in joining one of these groups.
Family Selection Committee
Members review applications, interview applicant families, make recommendations to the Board of Directors, etc.
Family Support/Nurture Committee
Members act as mentors and partner with families to discuss budgeting, encourage them, and assist them with any questions that may arise as the family experiences home ownership for the first time.
The qualities of a good mentor are:
*A good listener.
*A relationship builder.
*Someone who is sensitive and sympathetic to issues that arise when a person is living with a limited income such as low self-esteem, anxiety, or frustration.
*Someone who has good "life skills".
*A person who is willing to help others and who is flexible.
People on this committee are asked to:
*Build a rapport with the family that they have been assigned.
*Serve as a liaison between the family and the Habitat office to ensure that the family understands the requirements of becoming a Habitat homeowner.
*Encourage the family to tap into appropriate community resources.
Publicity, Fundraising, & Development Committee
Volunteers of this group plan and execute special events, coordinate publicity efforts and promote the development of Pensacola Habitat for Humanity.
